Aquatec Maxcon is the distribution partner for Aspiral MABR technology for advanced, energy efficient treatment of wastewater.
Packaged decentralised MABR treatment plants are the latest offering in packaged treatment plants in Australia offering low carbon emissions and high effluent quality.
Aquatec Maxcon's self-respiring membrane aerated biofilm reactors (MABRs) provide an energy-efficient alternative to conventional treatment. MABR technology is based on passive aeration, that is, the diffusion of oxygen through membranes.
During the process, an aerobic nitrifying biofilm develops on the surface of the membranes, which enables simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND). This minimises carbon deficiency and results in low total nitrogen in the effluent. Aspiral™ is a smart wastewater treatment solution that packages our innovative MABR technology in standard shipping containers. This modular solution reduces energy usage for aeration by up to 90% compared to conventional methods.

Reduced operational costs are achieved through:
Plant operation is easy and process performance is robust. The MABR system can be fully automated and is customisable to client specifications to ensure ease of operation.
How MABR (Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor) Works
The unique, patented MABR process features highly efficient aeration and biofilm nitrification-denitrification. In the MABR, a spirally wound membrane is submerged in a tank. Wastewater is fed continuously and effluent is discharged by overflow. Low pressure air is blown through one side of the membrane and the biological activity takes place on the other side. Oxygen is constantly available to a fixed biofilm that develops on the wastewater side of the membrane sleeve.
Simultaneous aerobic and anoxic conditions develop in this zone, leading to simultaneous nitrification and denitrification using very little energy and space. This low pressure, passive aeration offers significant energy savings over conventional, high pressure aeration. The unique conditions in the MABR spiral promotes a highly efficient nutrient removal process even at low temperatures. This packaged treatment plant offers the highest quality final effluent with the lowest carbon footprint.
