Company History

Maxcon Industries began as a private company, Maxwell Contracting, in 1970. The organisation shifted to its current location in 1974. Initially, the business concentrated on power plant steelwork. High quality general engineering remains the core of the business.

Personnel

Maxcon Industries employs more than 80 full-time staff and has a long standing heavy commitment to apprenticeships and training. Staff include professional engineers, draftsmen, boilermakers, fitters & turners, painters and other trades enabling the company to provide a complete manufacturing, coating, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance service. Importantly, all personnel interact with each other, thus ensuring continuous feedback and depth of knowledge of staff. The result is high quality engineering production.

Facilities

Maxcon Industries is sited on a 5 hectare workshop and design complex near Ipswich. Set amongst trees and gardens, the Ipswich office houses accounting, managerial and engineering personnel.

The factory complex has a floor area of approximately 3,000 square metres. The main workshop is 20 metres wide, 110 metres long and 12 metres high. Three overhead cranes are installed with over 7 metres to the hook. Large mobile cranes can augment the fixed cranage with 30T yard crane if necessary. An annexe houses the lunchroom, change room, wash room, shower facilities, toilets, workshop offices, switch rooms and stores. An additional facility houses the machine shop in which the company manufacturers ninety percent of all its machining requirements.

Major shop equipment

  • Presses of 125,200 and 300 tonne capacity - bed lengths up to 6m.
  • Metal Cropper to 60mm round mild steel by 25mm shear cut.
  • Guillotine 3.8 metres by 16mm.
  • Plate rolls 3.0 metres by 16mm Plate.
  • Lathes to 6 metre centres 1 metre diameter at chuck.


The company has a long history of attention to quality and has accreditation to AS/NZS ISO 9001.

The workshop is best suited for plate work and general structural work and is able to fabricate any component capable of road transport.
