Aquatec Maxcon recently completed the Design and Construction of the Water Treatment Plant in Westbury, Tasmania.

Aquatec Maxcon was the Main Contractor on this project constructing the water treatment plant at the existing 135 ML reservoir site to treat the raw water from this reservoir for distribution to the township of Westbury.

The main elements of the plant include:

  • 3.1 ML/d in-filter DAFF water treatment plant
  • A raw water pump station at the existing reservoir
  • Sludge thickener
  • 375mm DICL post CWS line
  • Four sludge lagoons to treat the waste from the new Water Treatment Plant

The water treatment involves the following processes:

  • Alum dosing (coagulation)
  • Pre-lime (pH/alkalinity adjustment)
  • Dissolved Air Flotation Filtration (DAFF)
  • Post-lime (pH/alkalinity adjustment)
  • Chlorination system
  • Fluoridation system
  • Sludge thickener
  • 4 x sludge lagoons with underdrain and decanting systems
