Anaerobic Technologies

Aquatec Maxcon is a leading provider of anaerobic technologies for a variety of applications, with over 40 years’ experience in the field. From high rate anaerobic treatment processes for industrial wastewater treatment applications to more conventional municipal digestion processes, Aquatec Maxcon have access to a wide variety of proprietary and in-house technologies. We conduct extensive research and development in our laboratory as well as field pilot trials to continually improve our technologies.

Aquatec Maxcon have also built dedicated Waste to Energy facilities which provide municipalities with reduced biosolid disposal costs in addition to additional revenue streams by co-digesting wastes, thereby reducing greenhouse gases by preventing organic waste going to landfill.

Aquatec Maxcon is a long term partner of Paques BV from the Netherlands, having installed several IC, UASB and Circox reactors over our 30 year partnership.

BIOPAC® IC

Paques Internal Circulator technology enables greater volumetric loading rates and improved process stability than a conventional UASB, enabling the minimum possible footprint. These plants have low energy requirements and deliver substantial volumes of renewable biogas for plant boilers or co-generation facilities. IC Reactors are currently operational at the XXXX Brewery (Brisbane, QLD), Visy Paper (Sydney, NSW), Tooheys Brewery (Sydney, NSW), the Smiths Snackfood Company (Brisbane, QLD) and in Samoa and New Zealand.

Anaerobic Floatation Reactor (AFR)

Wastewater with fats, oil and grease and/or solids such as proteins and starch, can effectively be treated in the BIOPAQ®AFR. This AFR is an all-in-one system that converts organic compounds into valuable biogas. The compactly designed bioreactor treats wastewater with a COD content from 5-70 g/l with vegetable or animal fats at hydraulically short retention times from 1-8 days. The intensive contact between the open bacteria flocs and the organic compounds in combination with the biomass retention in the integrated flotation unit is the success factor for this technology.

  • Combines the best characteristics of the compact high rate anaerobic reactors and the CSTR

Municipal Biosolids

Digestion

Aquatec Maxcon offers a complete package for anaerobic digestion systems. For anaerobic digesters, we can offer steel or membrane digester covers, digester heating, circulating and mixing systems as well as biogas CHP generators and emergency biogas flares. Aquatec Maxcon supplies and installs individual process units or complete turnkey solutions.

  • Gas Lance - We can offer mixing gas lance in guide tubes in stainless steel and galvanised mild steel.
  • Draft Tube - We can offer draft tube mixing systems using gas lift system.
  • Mechanical Mixing – We offer mechanical mixing either pumped with directional nozzles or long arm agitators

Digester Covers (Floating, Fixed and Double Membrane)

Aquatec Maxcon has completed in excess of 40 digester installations and has designed, manufactured and installed some of the largest digester roofs across Australia.

  • Floating steel digester cover complete with roller guides and water seal.
  • Fixed digester cover for primary.
  • Double Membrane digester covers for lower cost applications.

Waste to Energy

Waste to Energy is Aquatec Maxcon’s answer to a more sustainable sewage treatment plant, which produces renewable energy from a variety of different waste sources. This unique design solution can be used to power existing sewage treatment plants and/or recycled water facilities, with excess energy exported to the grid. The facilities are designed to provide more sustainable energy from the existing sewage treatment plants and remove waste that would otherwise end up in landfill.

The waste to energy plants use biomass derived from a number of sources, which may include fats, oil & grease, fruit & vegetable wastes and wastes from animal processing facilities (such as the sludge from waste treatment plant at abattoirs). The biogas can be used directly for producing heat or combined heat and power (CHP). The process is incredibly energy efficient as out of 100 per cent of the energy content put into the plant, only 12 per cent is required to run the plant and only 10 per cent is lost from the CHP process.

This leaves an excess of 78 per cent of the energy to be utilised in the form of power and heat or excess electricity to the grid.
